Why Hire Mulberry Street Strategies?

Mollie founded Mulberry Street Strategies in 2017 after spending more than 20 years of advising and communicating on behalf of a wide range of clients in the public and private sectors, including in high-profile, media-facing federal and state government roles.

Her deep experience, professionalism and notable work ethic have prepared her to handle pressing crises, and her responsiveness, creativity and easy-going nature make her a great fit working long-term with a client on day-to-day public relations efforts.

Mollie works directly with each client of Mulberry Street Strategies, bringing on additional staff as needed, to provide strategic communications services to clients ranging from law firms to small and large businesses, to not-for-profits to issue advocacy groups, political campaigns and much more.

She and her team handle all of it: from setting strategy to writing social media content, press releases and OpEds, to placing stories, to, if needed, talking with editors about stories you do not want to see run.

Having senior level attention to every detail makes a notable difference in the client experience — and the results.

This firm reflects Mollie’s reputation, and she only takes on clients and projects she knows she has time to service to the best of her and her team’s ability.

SERVICES

Crisis

Ideally, get a crisis communications professional on your team before the crisis breaks. If that isn’t possible, bring one in as soon as you can to help see around corners to best shape the strategy and hone your message.

Media Relations

Using the media to get your message out, either on offense or defense, can be powerful. Having someone on your team with trusted relationships is critical.

Thought Leadership

Commenting on issues in the news, either with bylined articles or being quoted in news articles, can amplify your profile in your industry and more broadly.

Social Media

Social media is an important element of a smart communications plan. Smart and timely social media content can amplify your message to a much more diverse set of contacts than targeted media or your personal contacts allow.

A Few Professional Highlights

Mollie is happiest working at the intersection of the public and private sectors.

Mollie served as New York Governor George E. Pataki’s New York City Press Secretary during the attacks of September 11, 2001. In this capacity and working as part of a large team, Mollie managed Governor Pataki’s media presence and public events in New York City and in “downstate” New York.

She traveled extensively with the Governor for many years, acting as his spokesperson for the issues relating to these agencies, as well as for First Lady, Mrs. Libby Pataki, and the Pataki family. She also oversaw the press operations for approximately 20 New York State agencies, including the Metropolitan Transit Authority, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation.

She later served as the Director of Public Information for the New York State Division of Criminal Justice, and in this position, spearheaded press strategy that culminated in the passage of several high-profile and hard-fought legislative successes.

Mollie also served as Executive Vice President at midtown public relations boutique LAK Public Relations, Inc. for more than a decade, during which time she advised a broad range of clients ranging from publicly-traded companies to not-for-profit organizations. Her work encompassed every aspect of strategic communications: from strategy, crisis communications and writing, to staging press conferences and other events, and generating significant media placements.

Mollie worked with The Municipal Art Society of New York on their efforts to encourage a re-imagining of New York’s Penn Station, the Associated Press to publicize their 150th Anniversary, and EMCOR Group, Inc. (EME) on their annual breast cancer awareness initiative, the Pink Hard Hat Campaign, and for multiple not-for-profits and law firms.

Prior to her work with LAKPR, Mollie worked on Capitol Hill as U.S. Representative Rick Lazio’s press secretary. She also served as spokesperson in Rep. Lazio’s run for U.S. Senate against then-First Lady Hillary Clinton, which was arguably one of the first nationally covered “local” races.

Previously, she served in other communications capacities in New York State government, including in the press office of the New York State Attorney General. She also worked in Viacom Inc.’s corporate relations department as the staff writer.

To make ends meet in the early years, Mollie moonlighted as a hostess at Brother Jimmy’s on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and while working in ABC News’s London Bureau in her first job out of college, she waitressed at The Big Easy in the Chelsea neighborhood in London. (During college, she worked two summers at the Rubbermaid factory, on the line, where she learned an awful lot about the goodness of people, and what “hard work” really means.)

Mollie graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and is the occasionally perplexed mom of two fantastic teenage daughters. (She is still trying to figure out Tik Tok.)
